Contemporary Custom Home designed on Deep Creek Lake

This custom home, built on Laurel Lane near the Deep Creek Lake State Park, was designed by McInturff Architects.  This contemporary design strays from the traditional architecture that occupies the shorelines of Deep Creek Lake, and our builders were up for the challenge.  The typical Garrett County winters could be stressful on the flat roofs, so one has to be mindful of snow loads and water drainage, and this elegant design provided structure and drainage, ready for the harshest snow conditions.

The abundance of glass lends itself perfectly to the stretch of lakefront that presents to the kitchen, dining, and living room.

This home features multiple energy efficient systems including an ICF Foundation (Insulated Concrete Forms), spray foam insulation, and a hybrid heating system from Carrier with Greenspeed intelligence.  This system integrates a heat pump recovery system with a gas furnace.  For example, when you set your thermostat to 70 degrees, the furnace kicks on, but once it gets to a certain temperature, maybe about 65, the heat pump recovery system takes over, and saves on your propane usage.

We thoroughly enjoyed working with this design team, and we are humbled by this testimonial from the architect, Mark McInturff, FAIA:

"As architects ( or homeowners), when we build at a distance , it is important to select a builder who will always do the right thing- communicate well,  know when to ask questions, and execute a consistent level of craft that doesn't need watching over.

Gosnell is just that kind of builder. From preliminary planning to final punch list, they are a pleasure to work with and consummate professionals.

As a result, we don't need to be at the site every day to make it right. They are there, and it will be right."

North Camp - Healthy House

This custom home overlooks the slopes at Wisp Resort in Western Maryland, near Deep Creek Lake.   This ski-in, ski-out vacation home includes 6 bedrooms, 6.5 half baths, and a Guest Suite above the garage.  Featuring rustic barn wood siding and timber trusses above the great room, every material in this home was meticulously chosen with special regard to create a Healthy Home.  This Healthy Home included a geothermal heating system, AirKrete insulation, multiple air sealant applications, and triple pane windows to create an extremely energy efficient home.

Gosnell Builders worked with a Healthy Home Consultant to be sure the design of the home followed specific guidelines.  Every material from the fiber glass rebar to the paint and caulk was specified in regards to its low VOCs and off gassing components.  We even worked with an electromagnetic field consultant to design special wiring to combat the electromagnetic radiation.

Fiddler's Green - Deep Creek Lake

Fiddler's Green is a lakeside retreat on Deep Creek Lake, designed by local Architect Phil Silkey, AIA.  This home is the perfect retreat for family and friends relaxing for the weekend at Deep Creek Lake.  A contemporary cottage inspired by the Lake and boat houses of the late 19th century, this home fulfilled the owners need for a larger cottage with internal boat storage. Challenged with a narrow lot on Deep Creek Lake, a small footprint incorporates a first class energy package within a naturally finished Douglas fir timber structure, and features lakefront glass, stone fireplaces, a waterproof stone deck, and a stone faced bar.

This custom home includes an extremely energy efficient hybrid system from Carrier with their greenspeed technology.  The hybrid technology combines a propane furnace with a highly efficient heat pump.  We also incorporated under slab insulation, spray foam insulation, and tankless water heaters.  The home automation system monitors the energy use and controls other systems in the home as well.

Bird Song - Ridgeview Valley

Bird Song, a Custom Home in Ridgeview Valley, was designed for an artist and retired NASA engineer.  Designed by Phil Silkey, AIA, and Gosnell Builders.  Bird Song has a great floor plan with 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and an elegant loft space with a pull out for guests.  Gosnell's Designs for Ridgeview Valley focus on the rugged nature of Garrett County, with little maintenance, and the convenience of being in the heart of McHenry, without the property taxes and additional costs of being on Deep Creek Lake.
